The Changing Face of Pay Per Click Search Engines
Since when have you been comfortable paying
more than $5.00 per click for a pay per click search
engine campaign? Many Internet advertisers are beginning
to shy away from traditional pay per click search
engines because of the tremendously high costs associated
with running a sustained campaign using pay per
click search engines.
Not only are the top pay per click search engines
expensive to use, maintaining bid prices and verifying
the validity of clickthrough traffic make running
a solid pay per click search engine campaign difficult.
Because of the challenges advertisers are faced
by pay per click search engines, the industry is
changing to meet the needs of its advertisers.
"I ran several successful pay per click search
engines, but I was never satisfied with the end
product I was producing," said Mark Daoust,
President and Founder of TowerSearch,
LLC, a self-proclaimed pay per click alternative.
"The more popular each of our search engines
became, the more advertisers had to pay for their
traffic. While this benefitted me personally, we
ended up losing advertisers to the higher costs
of our listings."
It is from this motivation that Mark Daoust started
TowerSearch,
LLC. TowerSearch advertisers still are asked
to pick the keywords, listing title and description
they want their sites to be listed under, however
they are not asked to pay on a per click basis.
In order to guarantee that each advertiser receives
a top position for their keywords, results are "shuffled"
whenever an end user performs a search. The result
is that advertisers do not have to worry about per
click costs, managing bid prices, checking to ensure
that each click comes from a valid source, and so
forth.
Advertisers have found TowerSearch to be a great
source of quality traffic. "I get anywhere
between 50 and 100 clicks per day for my listing
with TowerSearch," says Christopher Berry of
The Host Group, Inc. "If I were to look at
my TowerSearch account as a pay per click account,
I would be paying less than $0.02 per click."
TowerSearch cautions against expecting 1,500 clicks
per month, noting that results vary based on keyword
selection and the industry that an advertiser is
involved. However, they also note that many of their
advertisers are seeing results similar to that of
Christopher Berry.
TowerSearch also lends itself to clients with multiple
websites. One account is sufficient to market multiple
websites. "We have one client who signed up
for our advanced plan (which allows for an unlimited
number of keywords) and has since uploaded over
100,000 keywords for several different websites,"
said Mark Daoust. "You can imagine that he
is getting his money's worth."
While we don't believe TowerSearch is a replacement
for pay per click search engines (yet), they do
represent an ever growing segment of search engines
trying to distinguish themselves from traditional
pay per click search engines. LookSmart did so with
a flat rate cost per click as did Mamma.com. Other
search engines are beginning to find ways to make
their service more accessible to the average web
advertiser, which is good news for the rest of us
that cannot afford a sustained pay per click marketing
campaign.
TowerSearch
accounts run from $29.95/month for 100
keywords to $49.95/month for unlimted keywords.
